Samoolam is a business that inspires us in many ways. It goes beyond simply providing employment by encouraging women to embrace entrepreneurship and working towards a zero-waste model. Located in Gaya, Bihar, the birthplace of Gautama Buddha, Samoolam has focused on creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for economically disadvantaged rural women by reviving the traditional craft of crochet. Using just a single needle and yarn, they craft functional, everyday items that carry the essence of this age-old art. For over a decade, Samoolam has stayed true to its humble roots, thanks to the dedication of our teams in Gaya and New Delhi. Through careful planning, training, and coordination, we’ve empowered each woman in our network to achieve financial independence and support her family. But our mission doesn’t stop at economic empowerment. We also focus on building personal confidence by offering basic training in English and digital skills. This has enabled many women to not only become skilled artisans but also to take the bold step into entrepreneurship. Additionally, we organize health camps to ensure the physical and mental well-being of our artisans and their families, making Samoolam a true beacon of holistic empowerment.
